Favorite vacation spot?
My favorite place I’ve ever visited is a toss-up between Hawaii and Florence, Italy. I can’t wait to go back! My husband and I LOVE to visit Wilmington, NC and Washington, DC. I love being around history and art. To me, there’s nothing more romantic and inspirational. And of course, there’s nothing more beautiful than a sunset in Hawaii…with the perfect 70 degree weather.

Favorite restaurant?
Giuseppi’s…I LOVE Italian! I also love Nagasaki for Sushi and the Pub for fried pickles!

Cocktail of choice?
I love Cosmos, Pinot Grigio or Beringer’s White Merlot. I also have a soft spot for Talon’s Coyote Red. It was the fastest thing to go at our wedding reception! We had to purchase more wine within the first hour!

Favorite gift to give?
Photos, of course!

Favorite personal item?
My Grandmother’s ring. She had a Mother’s ring with all my aunt’s and uncle’s birthstones. It was the one thing she wore every single day that I can remember. It reminds me of how she sacrificed so much to take care of me and my 10 aunts & uncles.

Style Icon?
I love Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O. They were both the epitome of poise and elegance. I love the full skirts, the big glasses, and the classic black dress. A new style icon that I’m loving, is Michelle Obama. Again…very classy and put together. I love all the colors she wears and the fact that she wears J. Crew. Clothing that is more accessible by the general public. Most importantly, I feel like all three of these women are people that are worthy of being looked up to.

Favorite designer?
My style is so eclectic, that it’s hard to narrow it down. I love to blend classic and trendy. I love items that are simple, paired with colorful and funky items.

Top of your style/wardrobe wish list?
I have an obsession with coats. I’m always wanting a new coat, as well as my staple items…a fitted t-shirt, the perfect dark jean, colorful fun flats, and scarves.

What’s in your beauty bag?
A mixture of everything! I am still shopping for the “perfect” products.

How do you define true luxury?
I think this is something that’s different for every person. It is something that has changed over the years for me. Right now, a true luxury for me is being able spend quality time with my husband without thinking of the million-and-one things I have to do. I also LOVE when I am able to spend a day at the spa, especially on vacation in Wilmington.

Favorite mantra?
As cheesy as it may sound, I have always lived by “everything happens for a reason”. I am always trying to remind myself of this. I also believe in doing what makes you happy. I try to live by this even with each of my photo sessions. I do what feels right in that moment, for that situation, for that person.

What motivates you the most? Who inspires you?
I am constantly being inspired by the people around me…friends, family, clients, and even strangers. I am a very lucky person because I am with people when they are at their happiest. It’s hard not to be inspired. I actually hope that they look at their photos and see the things that I see in their family and it can inspire them to embrace and enjoy those things that I found beauty in.

Any advice for young women dreaming of starting their own business?
Do something that you are passionate about and it will all come together. If you’re passionate about it, you will happily put all your energy in it, and you won’t have to work so hard to sell it to others. Your passion will simply shine through. And don’t take everything on yourself. Take note at what you’re good at and what you’re not good at. Be realistic. Ask for help or make a trade or hire help!  The number one thing to remember…you CAN do it.

How did you get into photography? Favorite photo?
I’ve always loved kids, photos, and the little things in life, but was always searching for what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to do something that made me happy and made others happy. It was so obvious, but I never picked up on it. I went to college, where I changed my major so many times. I went from thinking I was going to be a rock star as a child, to eventually graduating with a degree in Child and Family Studies. It was when my beautiful husband got my first digital camera that it all sparked. Then I started reading everything and teaching myself how to shoot to get the results I wanted. I wanted to show life how I saw it. Once I was able to do that, it was obvious what I needed to do. My style was born. A style that gathered all those things I love about life. It really takes my love for life, my love for photos, my love for children, my love for stories, and bundles it all up together into my dream.

Being the indecisive person I am “favorite photo?” may be the hardest question of all. My most recent favorite is of a sweet little girl who was only 7 days old. I had been trying forever to get that pose! Another favorite of mine is of my best friend’s daughter. This little girl has many different sides to her, but shy is not one we see often. I just thought this little look was so sweet. Okay, I have to mention at least one more. The next one is of my little sister. We had been trying to get her into this field all day. When she finally did, we had so much fun playing hide-and-go-seek. In this picture she is looking for our sister who was hiding behind one of the hay bales.

Here are a few of her favorites!!

  4. I worked with Pricilla years ago (funny to realize how much time has passed). I always loved her warm personality, care and love, and most of all, her passion for life. With her natural talent in photography, she not only shares that passion with all who view her photos, but obviously passes it on to the subjects she works with . . . which results in the most breathtaking capture of life.
