SLmag Polo Series in Louisville

July 11, 2011

This past weekend kicked-off the SLmag polo series in Louisville, KY – the SL Polo Virgil Christian Tribute .  Hardscuffle Farm is historically an ideal venue for such polo gatherings. Children devoring desserts, music billowing over the gossip and clanging of cocktails…fashion statements sprinkled throughout (some not so much) and let’s not forget the horses! Three events remain in the series so make sure to come out and join the fun!

I started baking when I was just a little girl around 6 years old.  I always begged to make the birthday cakes for my large family.  When I became a Mom myself, I took a 4 course Wilton Cake Decorating class.  I learned the basics there.  I made fun and specialty cakes for my children all of their lives as well as my friends children.  I LOVE to see their reaction when they see a fabulous looking cake just for them!

When cupcakes became all the rage a couple of years ago, I started making specialty cakes….only smaller!  I started taking the cupcakes to friends at their offices to sample and it grew from there.

I was looking for a recipe in February for Valentines Day on the internet.  It involved MMs, which are made by the Mars Company.  So is Dove Chocolate.  During my search I saw the word “recipes” and clicked on it.  It was Dove Chocolate Discoveries….a home party business.  I was disappointed I didn’t find the recipe I was looking for, but I found a whole new business!  I decided to join Dove as a Chocolatier and figured if it didn’t work out as a profitable business….I at least had a great outlet to buy some of the best chocolate for my baking!

It has become a very fun and profitable business!  I come to your home with samples of the Dove Chocolates, including brownies.  I show you and your guests how to make quick, simple elegant desserts that everyone gets to sample.  Then off to mixing the chocolate martinis!  Who wouldn’t love to come to your home and sample Dove Chocolates as well as Dove Chocolate Martinis?!!

My favorite Celebrity Chef is Probably Paule Deen, not so much for her recipes even though quite good, but for her story.  A single Mom starting a business and working hard and growing her empire!  I also enjoy The Cake Boss.  I learn a lot of different techniques, and great ideas from him!

My favorite dessert to make??
That’s a tough one!  Anything that makes people smile when they see it, then to hear them say how tasty it was.  I take a lot of pride in the quality of any dessert I make.

You want my secret to my fabulous taste???
Just a lot of practice.  I use the best quality ingredients and everything is home made.  I have spent years reading recipe books like most people read novels.  So just a lot of practice and quality ingredients.

My favorite flavor for a cake is dark chocolate with basic butter cream icing.  Very basic!  I guess that’s why I enjoy the Dove Business so much!  I also enjoy making (and eating) my Black Forest Cake and my Great Aunt’s Banana cake with milk chocolate icing.

So funny you ask where I would go if I had to have some else’s dessert!  Every year on my birthday, I order my own cake from Caramanda’s.  I have then write “Happy Birthday to Me” on it.
